Robin Golden-Hann : Stonemason

A traditionally trained stonemason and former head-carver at Salisbury cathedral, Robin has worked on a vast array of projects throughout the UK and abroad over the last 15 years.

Recent years have seen him focus on lettering in stone, a passion first aroused when he worked for the late David Kindersley in his renowned Cambridge workshop.

Ancient churchyard monuments have always held a particular fascination for Robin which has led him to specialise in bespoke memorials. These commissions allow him to design individual pieces which reflect the tradition of the local artisan working to vernacular designs that is so much a part of our heritage landscape.

He also explores letterforms and humorous themes through sculptural pieces which are exhibited throughout the UK.

“We often see letters as mere vehicles for communication and forget they can be things of beauty in their own right, I try and capture the fluidity and grace of lettering in my work in order to elevate it to something higher”.
