Henry Gray : Sculptor
Henry Gray is a respected stone carver with adept command of his medium. Henry trained at Weymouth College. After qualifying he was assigned to the restoration program at Salisbury Cathedral, during which time he was involved in working on the West front, manufacturing gothic architectural masonry and carving. Henry Gray’s sculpture is diverse in theme and style and ranges from full size ecclesiastic figures to small “Golems” and more abstract pieces influenced by Japanese Culture. What interests him and informs his work most are the human experiences, common principles to us all, hope, doubt, faith and the ambiguities of life. He also takes commissions for representative portraiture, in stone and bronze, producing remarkable likenesses, as well as capturing essence and character. In 2010 he will be concentrating on developing his portfolio further, exploring contemplation and divinity as themes and making pieces which reflect this. “Work is one opportunity to watch ourselves flower into the moment.” Henry’s website is at www.hgray.co.uk |
