Elizabeth Hodgson : Sculptor & Photographic Artist
Elizabeth graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Southampton in 1998, since when she has pursued a career in the Arts both as a practising artist and as an arts administrator.

Elizabeth specialises in creating unique sculptural pieces, mainly in copper and steel. Along with her functional jewellery, these abstract organic sculptures are based around the concept of the macro world. The work allows the viewer to experience hidden spaces and the idea of internal form. Large steel cages containing fragile woven copper forms convey the concept of protection and entrapment.

Elizabeth’s jewellery designs have recently become more sculptural in quality, and illustrate her exploration of internal spaces and protection of the human body.

In her photographic work, Elizabeth developed the use of large-scale canvasses emphasising abstract colour and form to produce a serene visual space. She is increasingly using this work as a resource for her sculptural and metal work, and in future photographic pieces will be available only as special commissions.

Elizabeth has also built up a career as a community artist, working in local arts with a wide cross-section of people, ranging from the young and the old, to families and those involved in life-long learning projects.

As a curator and arts administrator, Elizabeth has held a number of positions. These include her current role as Director of Underground Art and Design, a not-for-profit organisation established to promote the work of professional artists and crafts makers, specialising in contemporary garden sculpture and design-led craft. Underground Art and Design curates and manages the annual Art in the Garden Exhibition at the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens in Hampshire.
