Peter Jaques : Painter

Peter joined the group at Project Workshops at the beginning of October 2010.  He trained as a graphic designer at Southampton College of Art, and having qualified, worked for a design consultant for a period of 4 years.  He then became freelance and produced design and illustration for a number of his own local clients, including advertising agencies and design studios.

In 1990 he employed a London illustration agent and subsequently produced work for the BBC, Hitachi, Hewlett Packard, Sainsbury, Tesco and countless other large companies whilst maintaining a design and illustration company of his own.  Brochure design, advertising concepts and logo design still form a part of his work, and he believes that clarity of design and intelligent ideas are an important and memorable way for a client to make an impact in a crowded market.

At Project Workshops he now concentrates on painting fine art in a variety of styles, producing landscape, still life and portrait work in both oils and watercolour.  He welcomes commissions of all types.

While enjoying painting landscapes based on his new rural surroundings, he finds that coastal and river scenes continue to supply an inspiring and varied subject matter both at home and abroad.  Currently he is is producing a number of paintings based on his recent trip to France and he plans a trip to Venice in the Summer of 2011 which he believes will result in more light-filled and atmospheric paintings.

Having enjoyed the experience of teaching art in schools from Junior to Sixth Form level, he now offers classes in oil and watercolour painting encompassing drawing, composition and use of colour with an emphasis on colour theory.
