Project Workshops Open Studios

The Summer Exhibition 8th-9th May 2010

There are surprises in store at Project Workshops in 2010 for even our most loyal visitors: it’s hard to imagine the old agricultural buildings which used to mark the entrance to the workshops, or the car park where the exhibition marquee used
to go.

After two years hard work, our new buildings are ready and visitors to the
Project Workshops Summer Exhibition 2010 will be the first to enjoy this hugely popular event in its spectacular new setting.

Few who come to see for themselves the towering timber arches of the new gallery and  browse through our biggest ever exhibition of work by visiting artists, will feel nostalgic for our trusty marquee; and few will be disappointed to find even more resident artists displaying a dazzling array of work in new, purpose-built studios. It’s worth a visit just to see the buildings and the exhibition of sculpture in the new raised courtyard, but not everything has changed:  the original Project Workshops is still home to its many brilliant resident artists, who will be opening their studios to visitors for this one weekend only – and there is still the tranquillity of the old courtyard garden for the horticulturally inclined.

As ever, the Project Workshops Summer Exhibition will be launched at a Gala Evening on Friday 7th May, giving guests the opportunity to share a relaxing glass of wine with the artists and be first to see and buy from the exhibition before the crowds.

This year’s gala evening promises to have an Italian theme, with musical interludes by ‘Hatstand Opera’, Mediterranean canapés, a display of mouth-watering motor cars by the Wessex Ferrari Group and an Italian tasting table hosted by wine experts Caviste.

Central to the evening will be a silent charity auction of artwork donated by the artists in aid of Alzheimer’s, where guests will be able to place bids for unique pieces, some of which have been specially made for the event.

Admission to the gala evening on Friday 7th May is by pre-booked ticket only and all profits from the evening – including all proceeds from the auction – go to the Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer's Research Trust.

The exhibition continues throughout the weekend, when visitors will be able to enjoy an exhibition of artwork by over thirty visiting artists in the grain store gallery, two outdoor exhibitions of sculpture, homemade refreshments and a daily programme of demonstrations in the Project Workshops studios.
