JEREMY SMITH
FURNITURE DESIGNER/MAKER

Following a career in the public service, and having lived and worked abroad for much of his life, Jeremy trained at the Peter Sefton Furniture School in Worcestershire where he completed the professional furniture designer/maker course.

His objective is to design and make fine furniture and other matchless items, of heirloom quality, in beautiful solid timbers and veneers.

Whilst much of his work incorporates classical design features, he is equally at home creating modern and contemporary pieces, bringing traditional and long-established construction techniques to his work.  He will work with a client to ensure that the finished item embodies the best possible fusion of form and function, whilst emphasising the natural look and feel of the wood.

Furniture Making Courses

The Beginners’ Course allows beginners, and those with a little more experience, to acquire sufficient knowledge and safe skills to be able to utilise a range of hand tools to make functional and beautiful items in wood. Students will apply their newly-acquired skills to making a chopping board and either a tool rack or a small shelf unit, both to be taken home at the end of the course.

The Experienced Course allows more experienced woodworkers to develop their skills by making an ornate box with veneered top and base. Students will be taught how to construct a dovetailed or mitre-jointed box, with quality hinges and fittings, and with a veneered top and base.
